looking at 2 systems
Processeur Intel® Core™ i7-4770k
Windows 8.1
SSD 256 Go
4T at 7200t
16 Go RAM,

everything the same but the cards

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780
or
AMD Radeon HD8970 (Tahiti XT) 3GB

diference in price 200 euros (about 200 dollars9 more for the nvidia...
I work in the 3d business... not gaming
Design and manufacturing and redering mostly on Open GL

Never had a AMD is this worth it...?

Can it be quantified? I assume the prices are like 300e vs. 500e, therefore the "it's faster" is pretty vague imo.

If it's 10% faster you may want to debate that as well, whereas if it's 60% faster than it's getting a similar ratio for the money spent, and if it's over 70% then it's a better buy.

Of course once the actual performance and cost are known, you can value your time which if used for productivity and not a hobby it is easily worth paying more to get something done faster but I'm assuming price is a concern or the two options would be the 290x/780 ti..
