Help me choose my system!

Hey guys. Im in a dilemma. Im going to become a poor college student soon (by poor i mean i cant spend a grand a year upgrading my computer)

Im also looking for a nice monitor that can handle widescreen movies/gaming/console hookups. Basically save me some money rather than buy a hdtv or something. Anyways the dell 2405fpw caught my eye. Now im holding out until 2407fpw for hdcp support. I can buy this monitor if i want and plan on keeping it throughout college (im a junior now). I will mainly use my computer as kinda like a htpc i guess since its gonna be a multimedia center basically.

Now the problem is since it supports such a high resolution i was worried i would have to upgrade my graphics card every year to handle games on that resolution. Now this would draw more money out of my pocket and would suck...

Im getting the next gen consoles for free so i wanted a screen that can support hd resolutions and these can. But if i downgrade to like a 20-21" widescreen i will just get 720p support and not 1080i support for ps3. Now i am just worried i would have to upgrade my graphics card alot im guessing because of this monitor am i right?

Here is what i was planning on doing right now for a system

A case around 60$ shipped
either xp 3200, operton 165, or x2 3800 if oem cpu recommend me a good hsf for cpu
either keep my 2x 256mb sticks and 1 512mb stick or grab 2x 1gb sticks of value ram
Get the new nvid card coming up depending on the price or going sli with 2 7800gt's. I want something to hold me over until dx 10 cards come out so i can enjoy vista's features to the fullest. Also if i go dual 7800 gt's i want to do evga since they have a step up program.
no idea on motherboard. Want a cheap decent motherboard with nf4 and sli support for about 125$ max shipped
Getting x-fi xtrememusic edition. Is it worth it with the z5300's?
mx 3100

Again I play games and watch movies and dual core is the future and have seen drastic increases in fps vs single core when supported. Unfortunately only at lower resolutions. With higher resolutions i dont see much of an improvement.

Also i want to spent no more than 2000$ total on this system with monitor. I mean i really would like to save every penny if possibly since im saving up for college. I can spend a few extra bucks for a decent gain in performance but not like 100$ more for no noticeably difference. I do not use photoshop but i do multitask sometimes like play music and game or minimize a game and check my email. Help me pick out a good system!

-athlon 64 3200 - 1mb cache
-2 gigs of value ram
-7800gt
-939 socket mobo with advanced features for under a hundred bucks, preferably nforce series (pci-e)
-x-fi music edition

if you get this, I see you spending the least amount of money on a system of your choice without the need of extras that you may not ever seriously utilize, because you want a system that will run for a good price? I don't see anything wrong with this setup

but the thing is it cant run recent games such as fear and cod 2 on 1920x1200 (dont need aa at that resolution) and soon to be released games like ut2k7 and oblivion. I agree with everything except the vid card might not be enough and is the 3200+ the way to go? Many games will have added support with dual core soon correct?

What? The most important aspect of a gaming system is the graphics card. 7800 GT is perfect. Second? The games are moving to 2GB of ram- and you have that.

As for the xtrememusic, I have that and the 5300s... Its great for gaming, but I'm selling my 5300s because I don't like how they aren't very "clean" sounding.

what im saying is the 7800 gt isnt enough to run the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1200.
