WHAT I HAVE NOW:

Dell XPS tower
Pentium 4 2.8 ghz
1 gig ram
ATI 9800 non-pro

it's a good mix of quiet for work and power for gaming, but the tower is way too big.

WHAT I'M BUYING:

Shuttle XPC Black Barebone System for Socket 939 AMD
Athlon 64 CPU, Model SN95G5
$319

AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2.2 GHz, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit
Socket 939 Processor - Retail
Model: Athlon 64 3500+
Core: Winchester
$290 (heard the winchester 3500+ is cooler/quiet. true?)

GIGABYTE ATI RADEON X800 XT Video Card, 256MB GDDR3,
256-Bit, DVI/VIVO, 8X AGP, Model "GV-R80X256V" -RETAIL
$489

Pioneer Black DVD+RW/-RW Drive, Model DVR-108, OEM

Almost the exact system I'm about to put together, just mine is for my Mom so video card is nothing special.

From all I've been reading and researching, this looks to be a good setup.

I just wish there were more socket 939 SFF's to choose from.

You sure you didn't just steal my system specs and replace my precious Raptor with a Seagate?

I went with "xtra-low latency" corsair ram, but not sure it makes too much of a difference over the value ram.

The 90nm winchester core athlons use less power, but aren't necissarily easier to cool. Nevertheless, on a 240W power supply, using less power is good.

I'm fairly happy with my system, and its very quiet. I do notice the CPU fan occasionally speeding up for a few seconds and then back down while playing world of warcraft, but its slow enough that its not too noticeable, and its right by my head so it might not be noticeable further away.
