hey guys i'm trying to decide if i want to get halo 3 or gears of war 2.

i'm hesitant to spring for both, because killzone 2 is coming out soon, and i won't have time to play all three. i have played halo 3 before, but i didn't like it too much - the only reason i'd get it is to play with the rest of my friends, which can be fun in it's own right. as a reference for my likes and dislikes: i didn't like resistance 2's multiplayer, but i did absolutely love cod4 multiplayer.

Can't speak for Halo 3 because I've never played it but I do own Gears 2 and enjoy it very much since they patched the MP issues. Nothing more fun than sneaking up behind the other team and blowing 3 of their guys into next week with the shotty :p.

You're really going to need to play both, because they're quite different multiplayer experiences. Some people prefer Halo, some people prefer Gears, and we really have no idea which you would prefer.

Never played GoW2, but Halo 3 can be a lot of fun. Unfortunately all I've ever been able to get in online matchmaking for the last month are friggin brigadiers and generals, and I'm a lieutenant. Of course YMMV, but I'm pretty well through with Halo for anything but LAN games because of it, it's freaking disgusting.

Ranked or unranked? I have noticed that I've been playing against a lot more brigadiers, generals and colonels in social slayer lately (that's their overall rank, not their playlist rank which is unrelated to skill level).

I recommend Gears of War 2. However, rent it first. It is quite different than Halo or COD. It takes a whole different mindset to play Gears.

unranked and ranked. The truly bizarre thing is that a lot of these people are also commanders, colonels, and above in social slayer, so you can't just blame the new matching system. I really think all the mid-level players have simply quit.

Also, OP, when it comes down to it I'd go with what JoPH said, you'll have the most fun with whatever you can play with your friends.
