Help me choose my memory!

I've heard bad things about Geil, IIRC, but not much about Kingmax (beyone the Anandtech article on their BGA RAM and saying they're a big player in Asia).

I have a choice between some Kingmax PC3500 "Turbo" and Geil PC3500 Ultra Platinum.

The Kingmax is £70 inc shipping for a 512MB stick, the Geil is £78 inc shipping for 512MB stick.

Which should I go for? They both seem to have the same specs, and the Kingmax is cheaper, so should I just go for that? Any experiences with Geil?

The Kingmax is even cheaper than most Generics I've found, so seems to be the best deal.

I'm running 512 MB stick of Geil in my computer now. Not terrible, but I'm not really satisfied with it. Early on it would have random crashes, but now seems to be over it. Also, its rated DDR400 but when I've tried running my 533FSB 2.4 to higher than the 133 it doesn't like it. Can't even get it to run 150 without a restart. I'm sure if I tweaked the VCore and whatnot more it might run alright.

Its the Golden Dragon series, and was the right price. Looks cool but doesn't peform to par.

Never heard of Kingmax, but I have heard of Geil, and it's supposed to be pretty good RAM.

Kingmax is Kingston's high-end memory.
I've got some of that, works fine, haven't tried any serious overclocking with it though.

Isn't Kingston's highend line the Hyper-X sticks? Kingmax has been in the game for a long time. I have some of their PC150 SDRAM running rock solid in my BH6/300A@464 🙂 I've heard good things about the Kingmax PC3500, and it seems to overclock well, but doesn't like tight timings. The Kingmax PC3500 comes in snazzy red or yellow PCB's w/o a heatspreader last I knew 🙂

it is?? I think you are thinking of Hyper-X. Kingmax costs as much as Kingston Value-Ram...

Either way Kingmax seems to be pretty good though don't expect huge OC's though

Damn, right you are, brainfart, Kingmax is another company, my bad.

Though my comment about it working fine stands 🙂
