Help me choose drives for RAID5 setup

I have a small linux file server that I want to add a 3 x 1TB RAID array to, but I have no idea what drives I should buy. I've read that WD crippled their new drives for RAID setups and really don't feel like spending $150+ on their stupid RE3 drives. Any suggestions?

that raid-z seems to look like a better choice if you are going for consumer drives.

how about just doing 4x1TB with two raid-1 - that would minimize the risk.

me i'd just use rsync with jbod since its so easy to rsync in linux

its really a crapshoot - ask the folks that wrote the software raid drivers - they probably tweaked them to deal with the extended timeout of non-tler'like drives.
