help me choose between these 3 cards....

Ive learned better than to ever buy something without consulting u guys. Ive had an eventful week with my rig to say the least and now I need a new graphics card. I have a budget of 250, but no closed to the idea of buying a card thats a bit cheaper with just a tad less power. I am also open to ur guys suggestions on other cards.

I mostly game at high resolution 24inch 1080p. 550w corsair power supply.

Ive been looking at these 3 cards:

Sapphire Radeon HD 5870

I really value ur guys' opinions, so if there is another card you would suggest id consider it. Of the 3 i have, it really comes down to the 5870 and the xfx 6870 but no sure.

Honestly, the 5870 is faster in just about every game, and can overclock as well if not better than the 6870.

Plus, if you use this coupon code, you get $28 off: EMCZNYN77. At that price, there's no question which is a better buy.

Single card, 5870 hands down. For CF, 6870 hands down due to superior scaling.

That was sarcasm, XFX is a great company. I would go with the 5870 as suggested above.

Edit: If nVidia is an option the GTX470 is a pretty good option as well.

I´m pretty sure that model doesn´t allow increased core voltage, it´s not the reference PCB...

I´m actually having the same dilemna, go for that card or wait next week to see how good the GTX570 turns out or if AMD will change it´s current pricing because of it

Not such a clear call on crossfire - the 6870 might scale better, but it's still slower: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3987/...renewing-competition-in-the-midrange-market/8. The only place it has the 5870 crossfire really beat is on power use.

It may be worth waiting until next week to see what comes out, but nothing will be in the $220 range, which is where the 5870 sits right now. I don't know if that 5870 is a reference board or not, but even without extra voltage, it overclocks about as well as the 6870, which only gets an extra 100 MHz with a voltage increase: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...850-vs-gtx-460-1gb-overclocking-study-15.html

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but what do you guys think GTX570 will be going for and how much faster than a HD5870 can we realistically expect it to be? If it goes for around $350 then it would have to be at least 50% faster than this HD5870 (at $220) for it to be worth it price/performance wise.

I wouldn't consider crossfire with a 550W PSU. I know some will argue it's fine. Just my opinion. ;) If I was going to crossfire I'd go the 6870 because of power requirements. Card for card though, the 5870 is the more powerful card and the one I'd lean towards. In the end, I doubt anyone could see a difference between them gaming @ 1080.

I must say the opposite, I'd get the XFX 6870, they're excellent, did a RMA and went very smoothly, coupled with double lifetime warranty, I have to say I recommend XFX!

That Sapphire 5870 has an additional coupon that lowers it to 220 or so after rebate. That card is the best deal going around.

The coupon code is EMCZNYN77 for an additional 10% off the Sapphire 5870.
