My current system...

P4 "northwood" 3.2Ghz
Asus P4P800 SE
2x512MB Mushkin Value
NEC 16X DVD+/-RW DL
Lite-on 16X dvd-rom
256 x800 pro
Dual 74gb Raptor
120Gb PATA
Audigy
Antec True 430
Win 2000 Pro (which isn't sellable 😉)

I bought this for $1150....

Dimension XPS Generation 4
P4 550 3.4Ghz
WinXP MC 2005
1GB DDR2 533
Floppy
160 GB SATA
160 GB SATA
256 Radeon X850 XT PE
Audigy 2 ZS
Wireless 1450 Internal Wireless
16x DVD +/- RW w/dbl
16X DVD ROM Drive
Optical 2-Button Mouse
QuietKey Keyboard

So my idea was simple, sell mine on ebay or part it out if I can get at least 1150, and keep the Dell.

I don't really want to own a Dell, but damn. I figure it has some resale value, and in one year I could probably sell it on ebay and get a better one for the same price.

But do I really want to own a Dell? I opened one of these XPS Gen4's up the other day to add some memory before I sell, and it is a very nice looking machine. The specs are great. I hate to lose my Raptors, but to be honest the performance of them in raid are not worth the $300 I paid for them.

Someone twist my arm.

resale value on computers? what's more, resale value in a year? wtf was your mother smoking during her third trimester?

Computers don't have high resale value. The dell is better than your current computer. You're NOT getting $1150 for your current setup.

You don't think it would sell for 1150, even if parted out?

Well, it is possible if you get good prices for all your parts.

2x512MB Mushkin Value - $75
NEC 16X DVD+/-RW DL - $50
Lite-on 16X dvd-rom - $20
256 x800 pro - $250
Dual 74gb Raptor - $300
120Gb PATA - $30

Antec True 430 - $50

$1000 for all of it.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I really want to keep this Dell. I think I'm going to try and sell my current system as a whole on Ebay. I think I can get $1150 for it, it's a great system, very stable. I'm also holding out for another deal for a 2001FP which will look fantastic next to this XPS system.
