Hi all,

This is my first post, kind of long, so here goes:

I'm looking for an LCD monitor to replace my old CRT and save some energy at the same time. Since I'm from Puerto Rico, it's kind of difficult to get a decently priced LCD with DVI. I'm leaning towards a 17", and I found the CMV 726D at a good price. I can get it for around $260-$270 shipped (shipping is a lot no matter where I try to buy it), but that's still cheaper than if I were to buy one with similar specs locally. It's over here:

CMV CT-726D

CT-726D on CMV Website

I haven't been able to find a lot feedback from these LCD's apart from a long thread in another forum and a couple of posts here on Anandtech. Apparently, most people are satisfied with them.

However, I stumbled upon some LCD's by ONE Monitor that caught my attention. I haven't been able to find good info from them, but they look nice for the price I'd be able to get one of them, around $320-$330 shipped. I was able to find that it has a DVI input, even though it says N/A on the website. Here's the link:

ONE-PV178

What I believe the main pros/cons of each LCD are:

CMV CT-726D
pros: Apparently brighter and with higher contrast, 8ms response time (hopefully a complete cycle), DVI cable included, higher viewing angles.
cons: Higher power consumption, 3 year warranty on parts and labor but only 1 year on the panel (I'm guessing back light). Not sure if it has an 8-bit panel or a 6-bit with 2-bit dithering.

ONE-PV178
pros: Lower power consumption, TV Tuner, 3 year warranty on everything. Basically a LCD TV out of the box. Apparently 8-bit panel.
cons: 12ms response time (when compared to the CMV, but by no means bad), no DVI cable (can get one from eBay for around $10 shipped, but it would make the LCD around $350 total).

The PV178 looks better, but I could really care less. I want functionality for a good price.
Basically I haven't decided because I'm not sure if the TV tuner would be really worth it. I would use it, but maybe with the price difference I could buy a better TV Tuner card for my PC and take more advantage of it, right?

So, does anyone have first-hand experience with either of these companies? What do you guys/gals recommend? Would I be far off better buying a tuner card for my PC instead of the one with the LCD?

Thanks in advance!

Not much more to go to a 19" LCD.

I have also been looking at 19" and have considered it since for around $50 more I could get one.

That CMV has 16.2M display colors, so that means it's not an 8-bit panel, if I'm not mistaken. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to compare 16.2M and 16.7M color panels personally, but thanks for the suggestion!
