Help me choose an AMD CPU from MWave.com

I saw a HD thread that says if I upgrade my old account at MWave.com, they'll give me $10 off. So I thought it may be a nice time to upgrade my CPU and put my "old" 1800+ @ 2.0GHz in my second machine. Of the choices at MWave.com, which CPU should I get?

I guess the only real requirement is that it's Socket A, don't want to upgrade mobo yet. Unless someone can make a good case for it. 😉 I don't want to spend a bundle but don't want to pass up $10.

I'm looking at the Mobile 2400+ but it bothers me that it's only 266 FSB. I have a MSI KT6V so 200FSB is supported and a gig of Geil PC3200. Of course with it only being 266FSB, that gives alot of headroom for FSB tweaking but are the Mobiles unlocked? OR are most people unlocking them? Is the 2500+ or 2600+ a better choice?

Thanks!

Yeah, the mobiles have an unlocked multi. No mods needed.

If your board allows for multi adjustments I think it w/b a good choice.

General, the higher rated the cpu the higher the cpu may OC. But YMMV.

The 2600+ IQYHA is generaly considered the best OCer.

Ooops, rereading my post I should have been clearer. Would a non-mobile 2500+ or 2600+ be a good option. I'd just do like my friend, bump the FSB to 200 and be done.

So I guess what I'm saying is, what is the advantage of a 2400+ Mobile over a non-mobile 2500+?

You can pretty much guarantee 2.2ghz with the 2400+-2600+ mobile but some of the 2500+'s still don't hit that speed completely stable even with 1.85v so it is a matter of favorable odds that makes the mobile a better option IMO.

Perfect answer! Thoughts on the 45W vs. 35W? MWave only has the 45W Newegg has the 35W for just a little more even with the coupon. Worth it or not really?
