Help me choose a Zalman 7000

get the alcu theres not a big difference in temps
I dont know anything about the B series. Supposed to be better in cooling. I dont think its worth the extra 12 dollars.

cu=all copper
alcu=aluminum and copper

all copper supposedly has better heat transfer, thus better cooling, but the realy difference between the cu and the alcu is prob just around 1-3 degrees C.

Copper weighs more than aluminum though.

there's no problem with it wieghing a little bit more. heck, the hyper 6 is the heaviest hsf out there and is still safe for use with any compatible mobo. it's not very cost effective if a company makes a hsf that will cause any physical problems with any board out there.

I read somewhere that AMD says the max heatsink that is safe for their CPUs is 300 grams...but a lot are around 500. Weird.

i just installed the 7000A-alcu and my temps are at 36c, paired with some as5. i have no air circulation in my case due to only having 1 intake and 1 outake fan so i assume my temps will go down to around 30 with some nice fans instead of the crappy ones included with my case.

the B series is a few grams lighter than the A series.
B also has a better fan controller. Believe A is on PCI Slot at back of case. the B has a longer lead & small controller can be accessed far easier, have mine on top of case.

Bump just to see if anyone else has opinions on this 🙂 I'm trying to choose between an A and a B for 1.5 times the price (30 and 45, cdn)

Surprisingly, google doesn't seem to be turning up much in the way of direct comparison so if anyone can link to any I'd greatly appreciate it 🙂

i have the 7000 al-cu, not sure if its the a or b, but it came with the fan mate controller and a sensor thing too i think. i have it hooked up to a nexus fan controller instead.

i think the zalman site even says that there isn't much performance difference between the cu and the al/cu but iirc the weight was almost half.

the temps are great, p4 2.4c @ 2.8 and rarely hits 40 on prime. with the fan on low or medium it's silent and not noticeaby loud on high in a CM praetorian case.

all in all, i think its great.

edit just checked, its the a model i ordered

I have a 7000B for sale.. I only used it for like 2 weeks before buying the exact same 7000B, but the Blue LED version. I will let you have it for $30 shipped. It comes with everything included, even the original packing.

Thanks for the offer, but it's only about $35us shipped and new from the store I was looking at. I need this to push my order over $100cdn which qualifies me for free shipping.

Anyways, my decision's been made, since they don't actually carry the 7000a anymore. 🙂
