Hi, so after having a power outage the other day with both my computers turning off, I decided it would be safer to find a couple ups's for them. Having never owned one, and there being suprisingly little in the way of reviews on the net, I need some advice from someone who's had some experience with these brands.

BELKIN 750va F6B750-AVR) / (F6C750-AVR) (RETAIL) 750VA BATTERY BACKUP WITH SURGE PROTECTION ----- 95.00

BELKIN (F6C900-UNV) (RETAIL) 900VA BATTERY BACKUP WITH SURGE PROTECTION
(F6C900-UNV) (RETAIL) 900VA BATTERY BACKUP WITH SURGE PROTECTION----120.00

APC 750VA Battery Back-Up (BE750G-CN) -----136.00

APC 900VA UPS Battery Back-Up (BX900R-CN) ------162.00

APC 1300VA UPS Battery Back-Up With LCD (BX1300LCD-CN) -----200.00

So, I need 2 ups, (computers are in different rooms) and one computer is a core2quad, 750w ps, 24 in monitor, the other one is a core2duo 535w ps with a 22 in monitor.

Thanks.

If you need both systems operable for as long as possible during an outage, buy the APC BX1300LCD-CN.
If you want to keep things running during a brownout and keep incoming voltage "clean", you might look at the APC LE1200 line conditioners. They're FAR cheaper than the AVR units you've listed, keep voltage clean but won't hold power during a full blackout.

With that said, I'd opt for an APC unit over a Belkin. The APC has a better reputation for quality and longevity than the Belkin.

Don't connect your monitors to the UPS.

Just plug in the PCs.

You have to connect the monitor to the UPS otherwise how can you see what you are doing to shut down the computer ? ?
A ups is only intended to provide power long enough to let you make a safe shut down.

Don't connect your monitors to the UPS.
Whats the reason for that, kinda defeats the purpose of battery back-up doesn't it? I can understand for shutdown point of view or power consumption but what if your working on pc during a blackout.
I have the APC 900VA no problems, saved me during a few storms, only reason I bought that one was sale price, but i would purchase again.

Connecting monitors to an ups is OK in my book. Never had any issues. However, I never connect a laser printer to it. Way to much watts drawing from lasers. I believe in buying the biggest ups you can afford. Increase up time during an outage and it always allows you to add more devices to it if you want. Like speaker power cord and ISP modems and routers.

Your PC will shut down on it's own. You don't need the monitor for that.

I agree with you to some degree, but there may come a time when you will need your monitor on to be able to save your work. It was a nice feeling being able to run on battery power and close everything down when I had to use it. I cannot see why you or anyone for that matter wouldn't want monitor on battery power, its there why not use it.

That is a true statement. When power is cut from the PC, it will shut down.
But not really "on it's own" :p

It's like saying your car will shut off on it's own... when you run out of gas.

I don't see the point of getting a UPS if your monitor isn't connected. =\ A UPS is there for you to quickly end/save whatever work you were on and shut down your computer. You can hardly do that without a monitor...
