Help me choose a topic to talk about for Japanese

The only restriction I have is that the topic has to relate to Japan. Initially I thought I'd talk about the development of input methods and character encoding, but that's probably too geeky. (And the professor rejected my idea of talking about pi from last semester. No restrictions that time, so I wound up talking about zombies. Good 'ol Zombie Survival Guide influence ).

Seriously though, it would be nice to analyze how, Japan, an island without more than 1 or 2 major natural resources, if any, has survived this long and excelled through the process of manufacturing through the importation of raw materials for other nations

perhaps don't go into the the whole "bitch slapping and murdering of the chinese as revenge" thing and keep it economic and business-oriented.
