My moms bday is comming up and I want to get her something nice this year, I can't think of anything else to buy her because she either already has it or doesn't want it. I want to get her something useful and since she has a calender full of dates and plans written down and I figured a PDA might help her out. I'm looking for something around $150 and has a color screen. Doesn't need to play Mp3s or anything special but if its 150 it would be a bonus.

My dad has two of the new Zire 71s. He likes them quite a bit.

Look up Sony Clie's on eBay - the N760C, the T615C or the T665C. All have color screens, and the T665C and the N760C both play mp3's. I think the 665 usually goes for about $150-200, the N760C go for about $125-175, and the T615C goes for $100-150. The T-series also have a programmable remote that you can program to use with TV's, VCR's, etc. and are a bit thinner than the N760C.

I looked into the Sony Clie's nice models, looking for other options too. Anyone else?

A friend of mine has a Clie, not sure what model but it's fairly new and can do the remote control thing. He and I both agree that it's flimsy and kind of awkward.

I say, get on EBay and buy her a Palm Vx. The only thing to consider there is that the battery is not replaceable so if it stops holding a charge, you have to buy a new unit. You can find brand new ones on EBay though so you'll probably get plenty of use out of it. I don't care for the new m1xx series, the screens are kind of tiny.

I love the Palm Vx, one of the best Palm PDA's ever.

Yeah, I stopped caring about PDAs after they started introducing all this extra crap. I don't want to watch movies/edit Excel documents/browse the internet on my PDA. The screen is too small and the interface is too awkward. GPS on PDAs is cool and guess what, there are GPS units for the Vx. The remote control thing on the Sony's is cool, but do I really want to leave fingerprints all over the screen? No.

I think the Sony Clie SJ22/U from staples seems to be the best for the price, I looked into the Palm Zire 71 but its a little too pricey. I'm hoping i will stumble on a coupon for staples so I can pick that up soon. I have exactly 2 weeks to the day.

i love my zire

The base Zire looks like the replacement for the Palm Vx, except the screen looks smaller (same resolution though) and I'm not sure how I feel about the new button layout. Wonder if it's compatible with Palm Vx accessories? There's a lot of those...
