Which one of those notebook would you think is best bet?
 
Dell, because of the price and included RAM, video card & screen size 🙂
 
1) Dell because it's the best overall value, big screen, plenty fast, 256MB RAM is good, decent hard drive, the beautiful LCD display and they have a good warranty.
2) IBM is probably LIGHTER, more portable, IBM ThinkPad's are simply awesome, no shipping hassle = instant gratification.

Tough choice.
