Hey AT

I am looking to replace my old Acer 22" 1680x1050 tn panel with something new to go with my new PC.

This will be used mainly for gaming and web browsing and i cant go bigger than 24". I am not a hardcore gamer but I do play some fps games such as bf3 and ps2.

I have been considering an ips panel since I hear the images are much better than tn panels. From what I have seen from reviews and such I am currently leaning towards the Asus vs239h-p from newegg

So, what are some other monitors in my price range that I should look into?

Thanks for the help

EDIT: wow wrong sub forum. Can a mod please move this to perepherals?

I think BestBuy has a HP IPS monitor for $170, but no vesa mount, and 1920x1080.
You may want to go to a store near you and check out how you like the picture.

Why no bigger than 24"?

Only monitor I'd even consider at this point is a Yamasaki Catleap Q270.

My 22" is already crammed into the cubbyhole on my desk, 24" would be the max.

as much as I keep hearing about the Korean monitors I just dont have the proper space for a 27" :(

Do you remember a model number by chance?

I bought the hp 2311xi yesterday from BB for $169. Really nice monitor panel. There is anti-glare coating, but it isn't too noticeable. It is very bright and colors look good (makes my Dell 2209wa look all dinghy and washed out). The stand is nothing special and only tilts which kinda stinks - I would like to be able to raise and lower it. I gotta say it's pretty nice. I may keep it, the only other one I am considering is the dell u2412m but that costs ~$290 from newegg. I'm also worried that my little 560ti won't be able to handle games at 1920x1200.

Oh, I played some BF3 on the 2311xi and it worked well. Didn't notice any ghosting, but since I'm not a hardcore gamer, I'm not sure I would notice it anyway.

I had no problems with my 560ti running games at 1080p at high settings, so i dont see a problem. Also, you should think about getting a monitor arm, or some type of mount.

Using this with an extension right now: http://www.amazon.com/LX-Desk-Mount-.../dp/B00358RIRC and its pretty sweet. Before that i had a cheaper mount that was still pretty good.

Yes, I think the 560ti would be ok at 1080, but what about the full 1200?

The HP 2311xi does not have a VESA mount. So you are kinda stuck with the original stand. It does have HDMI but no speakers.

Another alternative with a very similar panel and just slightly over $200 is the Dell u2312hm ~$230. It has a similar eIPS panel, and a more adjustable and probably better quality stand. It doesn't have HDMI, but DOES have display port. I've also read that maybe the antiglare coating is a little thick? The hp 2311xi antiglare is not too noticeable.

Another option, the $200 23" 3D with glasses from Sony available at Gamestop.
will it work with anything but PlayStation 3 3d though? How is the quality compared to any other monitor?

Like i said i dont see it being a problem, its only another 120 pixels.

Isn't it more like 120 x 1920 = 230,400 pixels? Which is about a 9% pixel real estate increase. 2073600 for 1080 and 2304000 for 1200.

I cant say for sure, but im still saying the difference will hardly be noticeable. I mean even if your performance dropped 9% - if you were putting out 80fps, now your at 73fps. But resolution isnt the only factor here, so i doubt youd even lose that much.

My 560ti was more than enough at 1080p, and if i still had it - im sure many games would look fine at 1440p. (2,073,600 vs 3,686,400 pixels - a 77% increase in screen real estate) So yes i think at 1920*1200 it should be fine.
