Here is a reference thread of what I'm looking for in the new rig:
upgrade my rig

The one part of the build that I'm most indecisive on is the motherboard.

I can't seem to finalize on choosing which chipset I want.

The 3 I'm looking at are the obvious ones: P35, P43, and P45.

From what I can tell the differences between the P35 & P4x are that:

1. OC's better.
2. PCI Express 2.0
3. Southbridge chipsets

Since I'm not a hardcore OCer I think point 1 would be mute, but I guess having better stability isn't too bad.

The main issue for me is the PCI Express 2.0. Would this really enhance the performance by a lot?

Also, if I do choose to go for the P4x lines, the only major difference between the P43 and the P45 is the crossfire support and a better OC capabilities, am I correct?

Currently I'm leaning towards a P43 or a P45, but would a P35 be a better bang for the buck choice?

I have 2 asrock boards, which are a good value. The g43 full hd is micro atx with hdmi support and onboard video. The p45 rs-t is an atx board with pci 2.0, 6 memory slots, and overclocking jumpers. Another good value is the p43 twins1600 for $70. It also has 6 memory slots and overclocking jumpers.

PCI-e 2.0 isn't really anything to worry about in terms of performance for a single video card. That said, if you're not overclocking P43 is likely to be less expensive than P35 which makes it a good option.
