I need to upgrade my hard drive. Like everyone else I want to get the fastest, largest, best possible for the money. I can't go over $200.00. I'm leaning toward the Maxtor D740X 80 gig but really like Western Digital WD1000BB-se but I can't find it less than $200. What are some of your recommendations?
Thanks.....

How about the new IBM 120GXP? You can get the 80GB version for $179 from newegg.

I've had good expirences with Western Digital drives, and not too many probs from Maxtor.
Alot of people like IBM drives, but I've never personally had one.
Just look for the best deal on one of thoes brands. Maxter seems to give a bit more GB for the price, but I've noticed WD drives do not get as hot.

I have a WD 20GB 7200 and a Maxtor 20GB 7200 both in the same PC, and with thoes models, The WD runs cooler, and quieter. as for performance, they are about the same with benchmarks I've done. (don't have numbers on me right now to post)

80 gig Seagate Barracuda IV is a good drive. I have had one for 6 months and had no problems with it whatsoever.
