Help me choose a DVD Player.

I need to get a new DVD player. Haven't decided which model i want yet. Something that would play cdr/cdrw would be nice. MP3 player is not necessary because i have my computer wired up to my reciever. I haven't bought one in years though, so i don't even know whats good. Looking to not spend more than $200. Any suggestions?

This reads vaguely like a repost, so you might want to search. Most, if I recall right, liked Panasonic. I'm partial to Sony, but mostly for legacy reasons.

If you have or are considering a HDTV, then get a progressive player. Not TOO much more and worth it. If not, it is a wasted feature, as "normal" TV's havent the correct inputs.

Get an Apex 800A. It is an amazing player that supports most file types. Nothing is better than sitting at home watching VCDs of Jackass 🙂

I've always had good luck with Toshiba video products. I have an older DVD player, the SD-3109, which has performed nicely for me.

Damn not only do you have good taste in cars but also DVD Players. My first DVD Player was the Toshiba SD-2109 which was an excellent solid entry level DVD Player. Unfortunately the competition has caught up with Toshiba.

I'd get a Panasonic, Pioneer or Sony. Get an Apex if you want something hackable to be region free and read every CD format known to man-kind.

My first DVD player was an SD-2109! Great player, it is still sitting in my house. I havent found a good home for it yet.

What kind of TV do you have? You should seriously consider getting a DVD drive for your PC and then hooking it up to your TV. If not, then go with a Toshiba DVD player.

whatever you do, DO NOT get a sony. all the sony dvd players i've ran into so far refuse to read most cdr's and cdrw's. Panasonic DVD-RV31K DVD-Video Player with MP3 Playback (Black) 139.99 i have one of these at home and my uncle has another. this thing has so far read every single cdr and cdrw i've thrown at it. good mp3 play and good vcd and xvcd also, svcd dont work. only has a optical out(no coaxial), besides these things it's an excellent player, great picture and sound. loads very fast and runs very quiet and cool. hope this helps.........

That's what I always recommend but people never listen ... go figure.

I forgot to mention this before, but VCDHelp.com has a very large list of DVD Players and their compatibility with various formats.

There are almost 850 players listed 🙂Q) and you can search by compatibility. Many of them have lots of user comments on using CD-Rs, CD-RWs, VCDs, etc. in each player.

I have Panasonic Progress Scan RP56 DVD Player, and this DVD plays every single format of CDs. DVDs, VCDs, SVCDs, Audio CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. I have been pretty happy with this player so far.

For compatibilty, lots of people go for Pioneers. You can get the Pioneer 343 at Amazon for 139 free shipping and no tax (unless you're in the same state as that company) and there might be a 20 dollar off coupon at t*chbargains but i'm not sure if it's expired. so $119!
