I'm thinking of buying a digital camera, but don't really know what to look for other then the obvious. I would like a good (the best I can get on budget) quality digital camera, with a zoom function, and as many features as possible. I am not a professional photographer, but I would like to be able to have a camera that at minimum can take as good a picture as a quality analogue(?) camera.

At the moment, my two choices are the HP C200, and the Kodak DC215. The HP is about $20CDN less than the HP, both are in the $450 CDN(+tax) range where I have looked so far.

The spec sheet for the HP can be found here:
http://www.pandi.hp.com/pandi-db/prodinfo.product_specs?product=photoc200camera

The Kodak can be found here:
http://www.kodak.com/cgi-bin/webCatalog.pl?section=&cc=US&lc=en&product=KODAK+DC215+Zoom+Digital+Camera+and+KODAK+DC215+Zoom+Millennium+2000+Edition

--If any of you can give me a more detailed description of both of these cameras (their picture quality, etc.), it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have any suggestions of other cameras which might be better then these two in the same price range, it would also be appreciated. :)

After looking on OnVia, I also found the following camera. It does not seem to have a zoom feature built in, but supports the addition of a telephoto lens... Is it worth it? (it also supporst USB transfers, which I don't believe the other two do).

PhotoPC 650 Digital Camera, 1.09 Megapixel -- Made by Epson

Also, I have found many people praising the Kodak DC280 (2x optical 3x digital), for $779CDN, is it worth the extra?

--Another to add to the list?

Fuji FinePix 1400 Zoom (3x autofocus zoom, 1.3 megapixel, $568CDN)

I just took a trip from Iowa through Canada to my home in Alaska with my new bride up the Cassiar and Dempster highways and had along a Sony Mavica camera that uses floppy disks for storage. It worked great and we got some good pictures. The ease of use that comes with the floppy storage is a worth while feature. My brother-in-law also had one and all he had to do to give us copies of pictures he took was to do a disk copy with the camera and hand me the duplicate disk. It took only a few minutes.

i personlly would'nt recommend CASIO or EPSON, or MAYBE HP first off at all but dunno about hp execpt that they have serial conn which will suck and outta syle look of it!!! ur pictures will be d/w slow as hell unless u have a usb compact flash reader to d/w pictures which will cos around $50 more. kodak have the greatest tech support and lots of features while also olympus is the best in there lenses but long distance tech support and a little less feature and bulky if u wanna get a nice nice camera w/ big optical lens which would anybody prefer for taking great pictures. about at ur price rrange, u can get a nice Kodak DC240 (3x optical zoom!, USB, lotsa advance options, flash and lcd, exra 16mb card!) online for $400 U.S if ya add little more money but great features. i'll send ya lotsa pics i took to show ya how it looks. also dont look for DIGITAL ZOOM which is total CRAP which will show lotsa pixels when u print or develop.

I've had my eye on that DC280. I have heard nothing but good things about it. I am currently using a Fuji 1.3megapixel and it works surprisingly well.

I have the Epson PhotoPC 650. I got it from Onvia. I wanted the Kodak DC215. But, no one had them in stock and I had a pressing need. I am very happy with it.

Is the fuji 1200's picture quality worse than the 1400?

(the 1400 also has optical zoom, whereas the 1200 only has digital, which can be better done in photoshop after the picture has been imported)

--In your opinion, is it worth it to get a digital camera at all?
