Then compare cameras that actually cost $350-400, not $250 cameras that are simply marked up by Best Buy.

Before I make any recommendations, should I assume that you need an ultracompact as that's what the two choices are?

OP - It would be helpful if we had more information such an answer to this question?

Fuji F10

EDIT: That is actually below your price range. Update your OP too, what's more important: IQ or form factor?

I've got the Panasonic FZ-20........It's 5mp. 20x optical zoom........It takes kick ass pictures.......I LOVE IT........and it's right in your price range. Or check out the FZ-30. The FZ-30 is about $589 but sports 8MP and a better macro setting.

Its 12x optical. 🙂 Yes, its an awesome camera, you should buy mine... Right in your pricerange. 😀

EDIT: Have you looked at the Panasonic ultra compacts yet? I don't think as much manual control as the canons (depending on model), but you also get image stabilization in a lot of them.

Unsubscribe Me.

BTW - between those two cameras, I would get the Canon hands down. But...there are other cameras out there.

Check out the other suggestions. I'm personally not up to snuff on the lower-priced models. I keep up more with the prosumer/professional models that come out as that is what I would be purchasing.

I have a Nikon CoolPix with the 14 shooting modes which help you take great photos, however it takes forever to focus. It takes great photos under perfect conditions and crappy photos at all other times. In April I got an HP computer bundle with the printer & camera only costing an extra $150 after rebate, so I said why not. This 4.1 mega-pixel HP R507 camera is the best point & shoot digital I ever owned. Fast focus, intuitive design and menus, movies with sound, rechargeable lithium battery, etc. I kept the Nikon for its superior macro focus but carry the ultra compact HP on my belt everyday.

The latest HP R series camera is the 6 mega-pixel R717, but you can still get the 5 mega-pixel R707 for less than $200 deal

My HP really surprised me for a $75 camera.

However this is the next camera for me!

If an HP digital is the best you've ever owned, you have only to move up in the world. Stay away from HP at all costs.

Well considering that I still have my original one mega pixel Kodak DC210 that I paid $699 for eight years ago and all the cameras that I used in between that and the HP have been crap, yea the $75 HP was the best deal. It's not like I can lug around an SLR while inspecting houses.
