Help me choose a b-day present

This is for a married man who's an electronic nut. He likes to play with them, but doesn't necessarily knows how to assemble or wire them together. One thing we already have in mind is a custom made b-day cake.

Tie? Nah, he hardly wears suits. Never seen him in one before actually.
Cologne? Hear he does, but rarely, puts it on.
Gift certificate to Bestbuy/Future shop for his electronic needs? Doesn't seem to come out as very thoughtful and personal at all.

He did mention something about a flat screen HDTV before, but to hell with that! 😛
