Help me catch a rodent! UPDATE, I caught some!

It seems I've picked up a new visitor in my house. There is a furry little critter in my kitchen that's living off of the stuff in my trash. It's really quick, though, so I haven't gotten a good look at it. It could be a mouse, a rat, or even a small chipmunk for all I know. I know for certain is that it is still around, though, because I occassionally see a brown and black streak running under the stove when I enter the kitchen at night. It also leaves crumbs and droppings on the kitchen floor, so I'd like to catch it as soon as possible.

Can anyone recommend a live trap that I can use to catch this thing? I don't really want to kill it, as it would be more fun to put it outside and let my neighbor's cat something chase it around 🙂 Also, what would you recommend for bait?

UPDATE 12/23 I woke up this morning to find out that these crafty little monsters got into my pantry and ATE ONE MY POP TARTS! No, I'm not kidding! I'm not sure how they got up there, but they ripped right through the foil package and finished a whole corner of one.

Needless to say, this means WAR. To butcher a line from Evil Dead... "Nobody steals my Pop Tarts... and Lives!" So, I went to KMart, got a pack of glue traps. and set them this afternoon. Just for kicks, I put a piece of the remaining Pop Tart on the center of the glue trap, just to see if it would help.

I checked my traps before I went to bed tonight, and found that the glue trap that I put the Pop Tart piece on caught TWO mice! At first I was thrilled, until I realized how EVIL these traps are. The mice get hopelessly stuck in the glue, and there is no practical way of freeing them. I was suprisingly able to free one of them outside, but I needed to put the other one out of it's misery. Besides, the damn thing tried to bite me when I was tried to free it, so I didn't feel TOO guilty about that. I know, I know... I shouldn't feel guilty AT ALL about killing these vermin, but they kinda look like the hampsters that I had when I was a kid.

I put another Pop Tart piece on the other glue trap, since it worked wonders for the other one. Maybe I'll post another update if anyone is interested. I'd imagine that some people are thinking that this thread is pretty lame, but it's still more original than all the "my girlfriend is dumping me" posts going on right now 🙂

Cliff's Notes: Glue traps baited with Pop Tarts work. I caught two mice in less than six hours.

ummm, from what ive seen, live traps suck! the snaping kind are the bomb and get the job done.... the bait, use peanut butter, it wont go bad and it sticks to the trap so its guarnteed to set it off

Live traps are teh bomb!!!

I had this awesome live trap. I caught 38 of those little shits. We had a serious infestation.

i used a glue trap to get 5 mice at one point. i can tell you that mice love russian dressing and bread, but have an aversion to mustard. you just need to stick something on the trap that will attract them and they'll get caught. and glue traps are relatively cheap.

Heh, maybe I should just invite my neighbor's cat inside the next time I see it stalking my backyard. That feisty feline is an excellent hunter, so it would be like a mini "Wild Kingdom" episode in here 🙂

 to you for using glue traps!!!

 for attempting to free them!

It sucks, but the old fashoned kill'em-quick traps are more humane I think

Why in the world would you want to free them? Do you think they would do the same to you?

The mice are smarter than the OP it seems.

BTW, for every 1 mouse you see (catch), there are 10 others lurking.

Good night and sweet dreams.

when i lived in a fraternity house i once caught 12 mice with a snapping trap in a 24 hour period...about 6 of those were in a 4 hour period...this was with 1 trap!

literally 15 min after putting it down i would hear SNAP...
