I'm a die hard LiteOn fan when it comes to burning....so my answer is biased :)

This is nothing against you personally because everyone does it, but doesn't anyone use the search button? There must be at least two people every day that ask which CD burner to buy and the answers are always the same. There are always one or two that say that since Yamahas have better writing quality, you should buy them, and then another 2 dozen that say that Lite-Ons are best. I'm one of the Lite-On fanatics as well, so that's going to be my pick. If you're just dying to spend money (and I mean you have to be excreting money from your pores) then get the Yamaha. If you have any kind of budget at all or would just like to save money, then get a Lite-On. It's that simple.

Never owned a Lite-On but ATOT people swear by them. I've used various speeds of Sony, 4x, 12x, and 48x. They work well. If the Liteon is cheaper than the Sony, go for it.

I've used Lite-on and Plextor. I've been happy with both. I probably won't go with Plextor next time cause of the price. I rather save 50.00 dollars etc... and get some more toys for the rig.

well, I'll be the first to be different and say it depends on how high (or low) ended your rig is. The Liteon drives are fantastic, except they have a much higher then average cpu usage compared to other brands, and on iffy media they tend to cause some erros, specifically on memorex media (according to www.cdrlabs.com). However, you have the all important ability to burn SD2 copy protected things, which if thats what you're getting it for, to copy games, then the Liteon is your drive of choice.

The asus drive hauls, is the fastest 48x drive you can find, but I'm guessing it's probably hella expensive compared to the liteon.

Head over to the hot deals forums and find a good deal. There is a Sony (Lite-On) 48x24x48x for $20 after rebates and coupon.

i would go with the yamaha f-1 eventhough i myself am a lite-on owner and fan i just like the fact that the yamaha burns through every type of copy protection out there without the use of 3rd party software, so if u burn alot of programs and games go with the f-1 but if u r just burning documents and music cd's go with the lite-on

Although to be honest I've had no problems with my former HP or TDK burners, I really do like Lite On for their price, firmware upgradeability and rave reviews. I don't plan on switching anytime soon. I currently have a Lite On 16x DVD ROM and 48X burner. They won't get bad press from me.
