Help me buy good PC games

Hey guys, I've been out of the whole pc/xbox360/gaming world for over a year and a half, last time I was in the business, the 8800GTX was the best card around. Now I see 280GTX or something like that, no clue lol. I am happy to see though that ATI came back with the video cards, I remember people thought they were gonna go out of business (same with the cpu)

Anyways, I just bought a laptop on the forums here and it has:

Toshiba Satellite P105-S9337
Core 2 Duo T7200 2Ghz
17" 1440x900
Geforce 7900gs 256mb (I remember this being a very oc'able vid card)
200gb 5400rpm
2GB 667Mhz

Also I can choose between XP and Vista ( I havn't even used vista yet, don't know anything about it other then people seem to now like it so much)

So basically I'm big into FPS's, RTS's and anything else which is an awesome game. I probably won't have online access for gaming on this laptop so take that into account.

Just from looking on gamespot I see that World in Conflict looks good, Command and Conquer 3, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock.. But I know that even if it got a high score that doesn't necessarily mean it's that good.

Thanks for the help! 🙂🙂

Honestly, I'd say just hit up System Reqs Lab and scroll through that list of games. Gives you a huge selection of gaming possibilities and it'll tell you how well your laptop will run 'em. (based on min/rec specs, at least)

get the orange box. thank me later.

+1, HL2 Episode 2 is great, Portal is a really cool game, plus there are new maps for it. I have only dabbled in TF2 and its a lot of fun. You get all that in one package.

COD4 is really great. I have it for 360, but I am sure it is just as fun on PC though. The singleplayer campaign is really good with an actual story that is interesting. The mulitplayer will keep you busy for a long time with the different modes.

A little older, but did you play Oblivion? I had a lot of fun with that game. There are a ton of mods that will really let you tweak the game.

RTS's -Make sure to get Company of Hero's Gold edition awesome game and reasonably priced, also C&C 3 was pretty good

+1 on Bioshock, also a great game.

Medieval Total War + Expansion
Crysis
Bioshock

If you haven't, Stalker: Shadows of Chernobyl. It'll get you hooked in time for Stalker: Clear Sky later in the month.

he has a laptop. some of the games you guys are mentioning probably won't run on it, or if they do, will run like crap or he'll have to set everything to low.

It's not such a crummy laptop, it'll run those games just fine.

it'll definitely run source games

Agreed, his laptop isn't too shabby at all. It may not run all these games with max settings, but they will definitely be enjoyable and at playable settings.

And to add another since we are talking about Source based games. I just went out and picked up Dark Messiah: Might and Magic based on another thread here and I have really liked it so far. It has some elements of Oblivion but still kinda feels like HL2/Source.
I plan on spending some more time with this game.

Baldur's Gate Compilation
(Baldur's Gate I + expansion, Baldur's Gate II + expansion)

Fallout Collection
(Fallout I, Fallout II, Fallout Tactics)

I played HL2 plus the first expansion, is it still worth getting the orange box?

What about world in conflict? it is good enough to buy?
