Help me buy a new laptop!

I decided that this year I need a laptop for school... and for some gaming. Not really sure what I want to get, I was considering a dell 9300 but not sure if I want a dell and I have heard a bit about problems with it. Then I looked at the acer ferrari 4005 and wasn't sure about the graphics card on it. Also looked at the asus z71v, it looks pretty decent cause I can customize it to how I want it to be, but haven't really heard a whole lot about it. So I need help choosing a laptop for school/a bit of gaming (mostly ffxi, though I want to be able to play some of the games that will be coming out soon). I don't really want to spend too much more than $2500 Canadian and if I could find a decent laptop for a lower price (as long as it has a decent vid card so 6600 geforce or x700 ati would be the lowest). Any input is appreciated.

Dell makes a very good laptop and their prices are great. Only prob I have with them are their "extremely bloated" software packages/support crap/free internet access crap/etc....Toshiba makes a good product too. You should go out to your local store/s and look at them in person if possible.

I went and looked at a few of the laptops at the local futureshop and the toshiba m40 looked like a pretty decent laptop, only it had a 4200 rpm drive so I would have to swap that for something faster as soon as I got the thing home. Has anyone heard anything about these asus z70va's that are supposed to be coming out soon with an x700 graphics card? Would it be worthwhile to wait for that graphics card vs a laptop with a 6600 go? Or is the difference not really worth it. Also the asus z71v looked like it wasn't too bad but it had the 6600 go instead of the x700.... that is really the only difference between the two laptops I think, other than the looks on the outside.
