What do you think of this setup?

Case: Antec Sonata

Motherboard: Asustek P4C800 Deluxe

Pentium IV - 2.80C

Memory: I want 1GB but I didn't choose a brand yet... can anyone help me please?

Graphics Card: didn't chose it yet, but I need one with a passive cooler. Any sugestions?

HDD: HDD 120GB 7200RPM Serial - ATA Seagate

CDRW: ASUS CRW-5224AB

DVDROM: Samsung 16X/48X

Keyboard and Mouse: Microsoft Wireless Optical

Monitor: didn't decide yet, but I want a simple but good 17" CRT (a black one)

What would you change and what would you choose for the things I haven't already decided? and Why?

By the way, this computer will be mainly used as a digital audio workstation.

I don't have a lot of money to spend, so I want the best things for the price (I will later have to spend a lot of money on a professional sound card)....

Any help or sugestions will be very very appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

For the memory, if you're not overclocking then any brand will do.

...As long as it's actually a brand, and not generic. I find that generic will occasionally crap out on me.

What graphics card would you recommend to my setup?

What 17" CRT monitor would be a good choice?

Is Kingston a good choice for memory?

Thanks

get a geforce4 mx440. if you really want to dish out the cash for video, get the passive cooled saphire 9700pro

Your priority should be the audio card. That depends on what you are going to do AUDIO WISE.
I would NOT recommend soundblasters. They are good for games but not audiophile.

As far as the computer itself, a P4 2.8 is fine but overkill. A gig of RAM...OK but 512 will do.
Video card? Your choice...just make sure is a good brand with plenty of updates because I've seen video drivers chop up Winamp.

Where can I find the card you mention with passive cooling?
I only want to spend $130 tops, so I really can't afford the Sapphire!

Thanks.

i went to ATI's site and looking at the Radeon 9200 pictures it's passively cooled.
if your not planning to game then that card should be good for you since every 9200 will probably be passive since ATI version is.

i dunno if the 9600/9600pro have passive cards, but if you get them, you might be able to unhook the fan and run an 80mm fan (undervolted to 7 or 5 volts) perpendicular to the card to cool it.

since it's for audio, it'll have to be near silent right?

you'll void the PSU warranty for doing the following, but i hear the single fan in it isn't that silent and people swap out the fan for a quieter one, i personally switched it to a panaflo 80mm L1A. Read that the M1A would be a better choice (cuz PSU already undervolts to around 5 volts) since it's almost as quiet with better airflow.

oh you might want to head off to this site:

SilentPCReview

it has a lot of info on quieting computers, and has forums where you'll probably get better answers on keeping your PC quiet
