Help me build new dream machine

Ok....

I am narrowing it down.

I am going to go with the Asrock 939. AMD 3800 X2. (update) just pulled the trigger on both of these!!!! 😀

Help me put it together....

What PS?
What Ram?
What video card?
What DVD burner?

The computer will be used for gaming, video editing, and everything in between.

Unsure about the ram...... anything wrong with (2) sticks of the Crucial Ballistix 512mb DDR 550?

Thanks to all who take time to post.

We can't help you without a budget... Get some value RAM though. You can always run a divider when overclocking, and the lower latencies don't really affect performance that much.

My budget.....? Er.... well..... if I have all the parts sent to my work.. and wifey does not see em..... uh.......

Kinda wide open. But just to make it interesting.. lets say I want to pick up the rest of the parts for around $500.

Thanks for the DDR2 warning. What RAM specifically would you recommend? Is Corsair still as good as it used to be?

You need more than 500 for dream machine video card, ram, psu

Frackal...

I beg to differ. My dream machine may not be what your dream machine is.

I would never put down $500 on any video card.

I'll put another $100 into the pot though. $600 should do it. My dream machine only requires a $160-$200 video card. 😀

Oh.... and scratch the burner. Picked that up today. And I already have several cases I can choose from.

What a cracker...

Jose..... I ALREADY HAVE THE MOTHERBOARD, CPU, BURNER, AND CASE.

$600 can finish off the system nicely.

Reliable.... you think I'll notice the difference between 1 gig vs 2 gig RAM?

fortron 450w -50
1 gig corsair vs -90
7800gt -350 to 400 OR x800xl - 230 to 250
total = around 540 with 7800gt or 390 with the x800xl
these are estimated. you'll have an option to get 2x1024 with either if you get a good deal on them. 2 gig will give a good boost in performance with some newer games like bf2, maybe f.e.a.r.?
