So I've been out of the game a little while, I bought a gaming laptop a year so ago and it has become outdated and I'm tired of not being able to upgrade, I'm going back to desktops. I don't think I'm going to get any money for my laptop so I want to do this somewhat inexpensively but still the highest performance in reach.

I'm not up on all the new technologies, college has kept me busy.

I want do be able to play the latest games at high settings, or as close to it as possible, all I ever play is FPS so I'd like to be able to play Call of Duty 4, and Crysis smoothly with it looking nice.

I'll prob be buying everything online, through newegg or at my local Frys Electronics for big stuff like the case.

No real brand preference, I've had intel and amd, nvidia, and ati. Whatever is best now, and best for the money.

No current parts will be used.

Not planning on overclocking unless it would make the purchase really really worth it (ie (You can buy this for 200, and overclock it to be the same as the one that cost $1200)

Video Card - Dual PCI Express Video cards = 1gig Or anything else really, just high performance

Processor - I don't even know where to start, I was looking at all of them on newegg and I saw several that had similar numbers but $800 price differences. Advice welcome

Ram - I'm assuming I'm going to need 4 gigs, last time I built a box the top was pc3200, so I really don't know what all the new types are.

Links to newegg or where ever else is appreciated. I don't want to waste any money on this but as long as its worth I don't mind spending up to like $800 or so.

I already have a flat screen monitor, speakers, bluetooth mouse/keyboard, all I need is the tower.

Thank you in advance

You're already over-budget at this point.

Lurk around on the multitude of "rate my rig" threads, you should get some ideas of what you should get within your budget.

Thats what I'm doing now. What I would think would be appropriate for now would be one video card that has the option of running with another, and then I could decide to either buy one now or just go ahead and buy two.

What I'm hoping to get from this is some links to good motherboard processor combo's or just suggestions that are going to help me put all of these together that will work together. I know not all motherboards can run dual video cards, and not all motherboards are capabile of running all types of ram at its best ability. Thats why I'm looking a list of all parts that would go together and make one big happy system.

abit ip35-e for 80$ or so, 2x1gb of ddr2 800mhz ram for 50$ or so, 250gb for 65$ or so, case for 40$ or so, PSU for 50-60$ or so, 8800gt for 250$ ish. IMO you should OC, it saves a lot of money, you can buy a e2180 for 90$ for example, and overclock it to 2.6-3ghz with ease, making it worth 200$ if not more. You will need a decent HSF though, like a tuniq tower which can be had for 45$. There are cheaper options too, like arctic freezer 7 pro.

This would total up to 650$ or so, leaving room for either an e6750, so no oc-ing would be required, and no need to purchase an aftermarket HSF. You could buy a more expensive case and/or a bigger HD. Recommended PSU's right now are the corsair 450vx and the antec earthwatts 500w, get whichever you can get cheaper. Recommended 'cheap' cases are: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811119068 and the 5600 series from rosewill like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811147033
