Help me build my new rig

I have not built a new rig in years as other things have kept me occupied.

My rig will be built around the Core 2 Extreme QX6850.
I will want this rig to have multiple uses. Gaming, file server -- especially for streaming video to the X360 to my Television, Video/Music editing, and just basic browsing.

Options and recommendations. I am not on a super-tight budget. I will want to use WinXP Pro(64bit or 32bit?).

Thanks!

There are tons of "Help me build..." threads here. Have you read 1/10th of them?
No reason to post multiple threads for cheap builds based on an Intel quad core CPU... Sorry

How do you suppose this is a "cheap builds"? The QX6850 base price is still well over $600.

The fill out the sticky in this thread:

In the meantime, read the 9 jillion other "rate my rig" threads in General Hardware to get a feel for what is currently being recommended. We're not going to do all the work for you; we're not being paid here. If you do some research and come up with some ideas and suggestions we'll be more than happy to give you feedback.

I did check the August 08 thread. Had some ideas but I am trying to find out the differences between the "quad-core" and "extreme"(while i am going to assume there is no difference i am left to wonder why a difference price-wise).

The QX6850 is called an "extreme" processor because it has an unlocked multiplier, which makes for easier overclocking. It also means you pay a massive price premium over the processor just below it which can usually be overclocked just as high. In this example, instead of buying an older 65nm Core 2 Extreme I'd get a newer (and easier to overclock) 45nm Core 2 Quad like the Q9550. In fact, you could buy 3 Q9550 processors for the price of the QX6850. http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16819115041

"I am not on a super-tight budget" = Cheap as I can get by with. :p

Besides, the QX6850 is yesterday's news.
The newer 45nm quads have it beat seven ways to sunday.

OK then, I'll bite: why the QX6850? Are you paying for it? Are you overclocking?

LOL. Perhaps you should fill out the form in the sticky. Once you've stated your requirements/usage, it's unlikely that you'll be recommended the QX6850.
