I don't visit GH much but I can only guess these threads are common.

My story: I usually build a new computer once every 2 years, so during those times when my computer suits me, I don't read up on hardware and by the time I need to build a new one, everything has changed.

So what I need to know is what's the good stuff out there now. I'm looking to build a decent work PC, AMD System, primarily for Photoshop and some 3D stuff, that can haul some butt.

So I need a good processor and tons of RAM!

The budget is around 1,200 - 1,600 (w/o monitors).
 
Core 2 Duo e6600, 2x1GB ram (ddr2 533 stock, ddr2 800 if you plan to overclock), gigabyte ds3 whatever it is, seagate xxxGb hard drive, random case, seasonic s12 500w, x1900xt for gaming or random pci-e card with dvi, DVD+=-RXDWB drive

That's the basics of it.
 
Sounds like a decent system. I don't need a gaming card and will probably go with the Quadro FX 540. I will also recycle some DVDRW drives.
