I would like to build a pc, and a need suggestions on the core parts. I never really build one before, and I dont know whats good out thier and whats bad. I will be using this pc to play games, at atleaste 1280 X 1024, and also plan on doing alot of DVDRips on it.

I need suggestion on these core parts.

Motherbod, CPU, RAM, Video Card and PowerSupply.

I dont know much about AMD, and currently have a 2.8 P4 HT.

I would like something faster.

Please suggest good parts, and any tips that you have. I would also like to order online, maby from newegg.com, or a similar online store.

Thank you every one.

your cpu is fine, just overclock a little bit for more performance. what kinda video card do you have now? and how much are you looking to spend?

1) how much money do you have budgeted for this project

2) http://www.mechbgon.com/build/index.html is an illustrated guide that may help if you're a first-timer.

3) what do you intend to use the computer for, and will you want to do several power-hungry tasks at the same time? (helps determine whether a dual-core CPU is the most appropriate way to go)

4) what video card do you have now, so we can figure out what will be "faster". Also, how much RAM do you have now? :)

Well ill just thorw something out there. Im not a huge spender, but i like performance alot. Go with an xfx 7800gt oc extreme vid card (about 300 bux), and asus a8n32-sli delux/premium mobo, 500+ watt psu, a well ventilated case (i use an nzxt nemesis elite), and some western digital raptor hard drives. Ive seen similar pc go for twice that when you buy from a retailer (like alienware or something). Oh... if ur gunna rip dvds, then go with a 500 gig sata hard drive and a SATA dvd-rw. U will save so much time if ur gunna be ripping alot of dvds.

Oh i forgot... get an opteron 165 cpu, they stopped making them, but newegg still has them. its dual core, very overclockable, and extremly stable. (designed for servers, but performs as well or better than a gaming cpu)

I need it to be strong, I am planning to play graphicly intense games..., rip dvds and encode them to xvid, and run programs like MAYA 6, and photoshop cs 2....

for the core parts not more then $1000.00 US.

yo can overclock the opteron to about 2.8 ghz on stock cooling, and believe me, a 6800 gt will be fine. my 7800 gt laughs at everything out right now. (FEAR, BF2, etc.)

Guys, there's an EDIT button so you can go back and change things to posts so you don't have to make a bunch in a row.

Is that $1000 including a case, DVD burner, Windows, Keyboard/Mouse?

Are you buying a new monitor too?

ok, what would be the ultimate system, for this, like a system that would play next gen games and stuff like Unreal 07...

And that could encode video at super fast speed and stuff....

also any good over clocking guides? link?

Do not waste money on a SLI board if you're not going to go SLI.

The opteron 165 is a great overclocker, and as far as i know is still in production.
If you want a good overclocking board then look at the DFI range.
2gb value RAM (check for compatability at DFI street)
7800GT if you can get it.
Hitachi deskstar 7k250
Zalman 9500 or SI 120 or Scythe Ninja or TT Big typhoon etc.
400W fortron PSU.

There are great overclocking guides here, check out the overclocking forum.

You're not going to get an "ultimate system" for $1000, but you can get a pretty good one.

how much would it cost to build a kick ass system, with water cooled cpu and video card?

I meant on air, sorry. not stock, but air. And yes the opterons are out of production. Newegg still sells them, but in a while they will dry up. And an sli board gives u the option of an upgrade, so instead of buying a completly new video card, just get another one, and by that time prices will have dropped

Have you ever built a system before? You might not want to go into watercooling right away.
Have you ever overclocked anything?

People have been getting pretty darn good results on air cooling so I don't think going watercooling is a good idea.

Well i build one before, out of parts i had and some of my frineds, i did over clock a P4 3.0Ghz to 3.4 Ghz, with the auto option in the bios, not menual :) thats about it...

I just need good parts and a pc that would have power to do intence things and a few of them at the same time...

HP does not cut it any more...

i would personally choose an sli board because of upgrade options in the future
