I know a slight bit of computer hardware, and was just going to ask you fine people of a system build for a friend of mine. I already have or am going to have the following components, and the rest should come in under 800, or whatever the cost is plus what i'll get for the misc parts. anwho,
case:xaser 3
psu:tt purepower 420 watt
videocard, 9800xt aiw
1 gig xms
200gb ide storage
I still need....
cpu
mobo that accepts agp like asrock combo
optical bay
5.1 speaker setup and soundcard
wireless keyboard/mouse combo..
Note, that overclocking, if any will be mild, as resolutions is not to exceed 1024x768.
I have some idea, but it would be benifical for me to obtain the opinions of an expert gallery as Anandtech.

You should go for a opteron 144 and ASROCK Dual combo for the CPU and mobo. Newegg has a one day sale on the NEC 3550A for $39+shipping and tax. Look for the Logitech X-530's and a turtle beach santa cruz because theyre both pretty cheap.

If you are going to get the 144 and ASROCK combo, I suggest getting a Seasonic S12 500W to replace that PurePower. Also it'd probably be a good idea to get him a 6800GS AGP since they can be modded to 16 pipelines and theyre in the $200 range.

hmm, the askrock, for sure, and everything else, except the egg doesnt have any 144's, they do have 148's however.. and as for the video, why not the agp aiw and pci-e x800gto^2. That should unlock to the x850 xt pe level,s right?
