Help me build a cheap PC

Using newegg.com I was able to configure a complete PC for just over $240. Help me get even more bang for the buck! I chose a 1.4 GHz AMD Sempron (2500+ I think) and a mobo with integrated graphics, sound, and ethernet. I don't need any more than 40 GB of drive space. 512 MB is a must. Cheapest usable CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive. ATX case with 300 - 350 watt PSU.

Can I get this down to $220? Would be nice to spend less than $240 with shipping included.

Try searching for parts at Zipzoomfly.com, they're often cheaper than Newegg and many items come with free 3 day shipping.

May I suggest:

1. Looting
2. Dumpster Diving
3. Begging

Nawh i'm just playing. Try contacting a university that is nearby, often they will have a supply store selling old units to make way for new technology.

You might want to check out a barebones system.

case + psu + motherboard for $88 shipped

I don't know how that's going to compare to putting it together from different components, but it's worth a shot to check it out.

If you don't plan on overclocking, are going to be using integrated everything, and only one optical/HDD a pos PSU like you'd get on this budget should be ok.

WOW, that's tough to keep the price down to $220, you may want to save up until you are at about the $325 mark or so, that's more manageable to work with.

I'm not sure how you got $240. This is what I found:
$54 Celeron D 310 (ewiz.com)
$49 40GB Maxtor PATA hard disk (newegg.com)
$45 Biostar U8668D (zipzoomfly.com)
$38 generic 512MB PC3200 (ms4me.com)
$28 Lite-On DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive (newegg.com)
$27 Broadway Com ATX case & 350W PSU (supergooddeal.com)
$241

Of course, I think you should spend the extra $50 for the following:
$65 Sempron 64 2600+ (zipzoomfly.com)
$64 Biostar GeForce 6100-M7 (zipzoomfly.com)
$55 Western Digital 80GB PATA/100 8MB WD800JB (zipzoomfly.com)
$40 NEC ND-3550A (newegg.com)
$38 generic 512MB PC3200 (ms4me.com)
$27 Broadway Com ATX case & 350W PSU (supergooddeal.com)
$289 total

Have you searched this forum at all? Not flaming you, but there's seriously at least 10 threads like this a week, although I think you are the current champ with your $240 budget.

edit: have you considered buying an old xbox, modding it and installing linux? that might not be a bad option with that much $ to spend.
