Help me build a budget system in Los Angeles.

I need to build a machine for Jenni, she has her budget around 400 bucks. She has an old AST that she doesnt know whats in there. However she wants me to look into it and see what can I do get a new machine for her.

So far I have come to a road block. A couple of weeks back (about 6 weeks back) I made a quote for the CEO of the company regarding upgrading the slowest machines to a decent level.
IN that quote I came up with 400 bucks for a system with a 800Mhz celeron with on board video, sound, nic and the cdrom and hard drives. It was a decent deal with 128MB ram or maybe 256, he didnt go for it.. and that quote was useless.

Now I need to build one for jenni. However how do I get around to doing so within her price range. She has the monitor so we will keep that until she can get a 17" from costco later.

Here is what I have come up with.

Motherboard (with onboard Video, Audio, Nic (modem?)) for Intel or AMD systems. $135
128 MB ram $20
Processor: $70, may get a slower processor if necessary. + Heat sink if necessary.
Hard drive: $100
CDrom: $40
Keyboard / Mouse: $25 or lesser.
Modem: $20 (if not intergreated)
Case: 50
Floppy: 20

Total: $ 500 (with tax included)

Now I found a AMD barebone at Fry's which had onboard video, sound, nic, modem. 2 nic slots, and 2 pci available. It comes with the case and floppy. You just add the memory, processor, hard drive and cdrom. This barebone is made by "BTC" .The barebone was $199.. but if I add on the processor and other stuff it still gets above 400.. I will talk to her if I can get over the budget of 400. but at this point assume its 400. This includes shipping and taxes. I prefer getting the stuff on hand rather than waiting for an online store to ship.

Any ideas?

$400 is more than enough!

I build a true budget PC last month. (most from Newegg.com)
ECS KM133 mobo (come w/ S4 savage, AC97 sound).....$72 shipped.
RETAIL DURON 850 .......$54 shipped. (not OC, so stock fan is good enough)
Crucial RAM 256MB PC133.....$28 shipped.
CASE..$50 at your local computer store.
Floopy....$12 at your local computer store. (I don't think floopy drive cost $20??)
WD 20GB 7200rpm HD.......$77 shipped.
Sony or Aopen 56X CDROM....$35 shipped.
Zoom Lucent v90 Modem.....$26 shipped.
Keyboard + mouse ....$20 at your local computer store.

and ASSUMING your state tax is 10%.....it still a penny short of $400.

Of course, list above may not be the best choice for her or anyone, but it is the idea that "budget" PC should NOT cost more than $400. ;)

question though.. how is the trident video cards these days???

Will it show basic 16bit color??? I remember having a trident cad from way back and it was a peice of crap. But I would assume it would do 1024.768 in 16 bit @ 70hz easliy.
