Title says it. What do you think are the best parts for a gaming PC. My current pc is going down the raod. I cant get it to run cool so I am going to get an AMD system. Fire away! Links are always welcome.

How many components from the rig in your sig do you want to put in the new machine?

Seems like you could just get a new cpu/mobo, everything else looks solid.

Are you dead set on intel or willing to switch to AMD?

Either way, your soundcard should be the Audigy 2 ZS.

I am dead set against INTEL on this one.

Heres my list so far.... tell me what you guys/gals think.

AMD 3500+ 268.00
PNY 6800GT 389.00
ASUS K8N-E 125.00
P160 case again 120.00
Neopower 480 110.00
WD 250gb HD 151.00
cheap drives 70/pr
Memory ..... not real sure yet .... OCZ PC3500? 210.00 if so.

TOTAL so far: $1443.00

edit: I havent really shopped prices either .. most prices are from Zipzoomfly. Any other good places with cheap prices?

cool, but if you're building from scratch, i would go pci-express

chaintech nforce4 ultras are about $125 (non-sli)

BFG 6800GT OC pci-e are about $400

Looks like the AMD 3500+ is a socket 939 and the K8N is a 754....
How about an ASUS A8V Deluxe? $136.00

It also seems there is a winchester and a newcastle chip for the 3500+ ... Is one better than the other?
winchester seems to be a bit more $$$

u could easy sell off the parts from your intel rig, i mean a FX5950 will still fetch a nice price, and to save abit of money (less you intend to OC) keep the ram out your old system, then u have more to spend elsewhere like video card, etc

And keep the intel chip and mobo? Isnt AMD better for gaming? or is a 3500+ not better than the 3.6 p4 I have?

some one else mentioned......

if your gonna go A64 now, then go PCI express to be as future proof as possible. also mentioned just because your going PCI-e doesnt mean you need to buy a SLI set up. there are nice non-SLI boards and you just need to get your self a PCIe 6800GT

if your not gonna go PCIe for whatever reason, make sure you go Socket939 and NF3 250Gb/Ultra

id have the 3500
a socket 939 NF4 NON SLI mobo
a gig of G-Skill PC4400 ram
PCIe 6800GT
AUDIGY 2ZS (at least, apparently Audigy 4 is not a Audigy 2ZS rehash, its supposedly better)
and id get 2 hard drives...one for windows and programmes another for games/media

something along those lines,

oh and sell your old computer to give you more funds

AMD is best for gaming and the 3500 will easily overcome the p4 3.6ghz you have, if your main use is going to be gaming then AMD is what you need

i meant sell the P4, and the Mobo, and the graphics card etc.....sell it all if your starting a fresh, and you could easily find your self with another $500+ to spend on your new rig

you could always sell the cpu/mobo/VC and keep all the other stuff.

this is what id keep from your current intel rig

id keep the raptor, the case (i have the P160 and i love it), the PSU is a keeper to, and to save money id keep the ram as well.

but if want to overclock this new rig, you might wanna look at faster ram

hmmmm, do you have the $1500 already or is your old PC apart of that as well?

Old pc is part of it..... lets say I part it out. The cpu and mobo combo for $475? and the gfx card $250? $725 total ... then the 3500 and mobo is $392 and gfx is $400 = $792 So I would need $67 ..... what do ya think? those numbers fair or am I dreamin? CPU and mobo are only a month old. Gfx card is about 10 mos old.

i'm not very good at pricing preowned stuff. you may want to poke around ebay to see what stuff is going for to get an idea of what you're looking at pricewise.

mite wanna try the FS/FT forum see what price similar components are going for. dont ask the forums to give you an estimate though, i understand its not allowed or something

basically though all you need buy is a CPU, Mobo, graphics, Audigy 2 ZS, and possibly another HDD, thats it

Audigy 2zs really worth it? arent the newer boards onboard sound alot better than in the past? Plus ... will it matter that much with the speaker set up I have... (which I use headphone when gaming anyways)

have onboard sound if u like, but if your an avid gamer or an audiophile you'll apreciate the extra sound quality offered by the Audigy's

the new Audigy 4 though expensive is ment to be pretty damn good, but id settle for the Audigy 2 ZS as it cant be that far behind in terms of quality. either way and Audigy will be better than any onboard audio IMO

yes. it is even better, though not by much, than the now discontinued nvidia soundstorm.
