I have an *old* Shuttle AK31 Rev 1.2 that I'm trying to get to work with a Duron 950. Shuttle's site indicates that I need BOIS version 407 or greater to support this processor, so I've download that (and all other BIOSes in the history for this revision). NOTE:In order to flash the bios, I'm booting the machine with an Athlon 1.4(does this makes sense?...boots with a 1.4 but not a 950?) BTW, I know the Duron 950 is ok cause I can boot with it using the AK31 rev 3.1 mainboard.

I'm using a Win98 boot disk, and attempted to flash the bios(AK31S407.exe....self-extracting zip that places AwdFlash.exe and the bios bin/rom and then runs it). The AwdFlash utility comes up and tells me that the manufacturer part number does not match, and then promptly exits back to command prompt.

I've paused the boot sequence just after POST to try to capture my current BIOS. I don't see a specific BIOS version, but it appears to be dated 7/31/2001(which is earlier than the 407 bios release) and references part number VT8366-8233-6A6LVP8CC-00, which is the same part number that shows up in AwdFlash utility!

Moreover, the flash type that comes up in the utility AMIC20092(?not sure about this number exactly), matches the part number on the bios chip.

Where is this part number not matching?

I've tried manually executing awdflash.exe ak31s407.bin, with the same results. I've tried other bios versions, including the latest(409), with the same results. I have an email into shuttle, but if I can't get an answer soon, I think i'll rma the processor and get an Athlon, since the bios appears the support them.

Anybody?
