Help make a games shortlist for me

Situation is this:

Wife is due in July, new 42" LCD TV for chirstmas, recently upgraded HTPC to X2 3800+, and BFG 7900gs was ordered yesterday.

I have about 5 months left until gaming is off the table for a while. I am well behind the curve, as my previous best card was a 9600, so I'm keen to waste as many of my hours as I can between job and yardwork.

Not interested in: MMO games, pure shooters (Quake, UT)

Likes: FP/RPG, Turn based strategy, adventure, racing

Favorite games until now:

1. Deus Ex - so far above all others it makes me sad

CIV, Sim City, NOLF, Morrowind (just bought Oblivion), GTA (though I never finished), others

Good luck to ya.

Games:
Company of Heroes
Oblivion
Total War series (Medieval 2: Total War/Rome Total War)
Dark Messiah

That should keep you busy (especially Oblivion) for a while.

And Xbox360+42in TV=teh sh!t.

play Oblivion

it's good for a couple of hundred hours

Gothic3 -- if it ever gets fully patched ... but is mostly from 3rd person [can do 1st]
[great story and decent combat deteriorated into a jumble of 4 endings and *buggy*

Did you ever play DE:IW? ... good game IF you do NOT *Compare*. 😉

B&W2 is a *gem* of a godgame/RTS ... got terrible reviews because UNpatched it was unplayable ... great now
... unfortunately the Xpack is unpatched

if you can *stand* D&D "turn-based fighting" RPG, KotOR is *Awesome* ... better than DeuSex's *story*
:Q
[forget NWN2]

DM M&M is mostly FPS ... but has RPG type 'upgrades' and *choice* in a medieval fantasy setting using the best gfx Source Engine can produce ... not bad ... and 4 endings

finally there is Fable PC [FPS or 3rd/RPG]... which i put on "hold" while i finish PREY {FPS}

you'll need more than 5 months 😛

Sell computer, buy Xbox360.

Eventually, buy xbox360 yes, sell computer no. I like having options, and I like PVR function.

2nd if possible.
Get bored with one, switch to another like I have. 🙂

Rainbow 6 Vegas
Call of Duty
Call of Duty 2
Gun
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Company of Heroes
Warhammer: Dawn of War & expansion
World of Warcraft

doesn't it require a SM3.0 card?
😕

if so, x800 owners need not apply

and isn't the xbox360 version supposed to be better? ... or is it another recent game?

. . . and Gun was *awful*

He's not running an x800, so it's ok. R6:V is a great game on the Xbox, but I heard it's just a port to the PC and not so great.

He stated clearly he's not interested in MMO's or shooters, so pretty much all of your suggestions are pointless.

I don't mind some shooters, but I'm not into pure gun and run gaming. I like a mix of styles, which is a big part of the reason I liked Deus Ex so much.

I suspect Apoppin was replying to a few too many threads at once there 😉

RB6 Vegas also uses SecuROM 7:evil:

Have you tried System Shock II yet? It was directed by Warren Spector, the man who made Deus Ex, and is very similar in many regards.
