okay i am 18 right now, freshman in Univ of Texas, Austin, and i hate my major...
as a kid i always like computers... tinkered, played, yeah whatever, my first job i got was a floor sales at CompUSA, second job was service tech at Best Buy, 3rd job right before college was DELL phone tech support.. all wer pretty interesting jobs for me.
yeah so anyways.. i knew ever since middle school that i wanted to pursue a computer related career. I mastered HTML, photoshop, HTML (easy web stuff, etc)... i took my A+ (i gave up on MCSE)... i took AP comp sci classes in high school with exceptional grades... the thing was that i hated programming... anotehr thing is that i am not very good at abstract math (ie, abstract algebra, advanced calculus)...
i was thinking about pursuing ICS-CE... but i have a feeling i would probably fail anything past Calc M408D....i barely passed my high school calc course.. doing okay in m408c
i also was looking into MIS-since it looked like fun and was somewhat computer related and seemed to be a growing profession... but it seemed too easy, and i talked to alot of people and they said that it is hard to grow with MIS degree..that i should pursue a more "hardcore" degree.
right now I am in CS (cs307 honors to be exact)... and i absolutely abhore programming.... i mean i like taking the logical steps in OOP and i can write code and all, but i just get SICK after sitting there for 2 hours typing JAVA code.
so basically i am in a huge bind... on what i should do.... on another note, i am a very creative person, i love photoshopping-web design etc, i like art in general....'
can you guys give me any suggestions (any other fields i should try pursuing), any similar experiences? ... or words of wisdom to a totally lost freshman here? thanks ALOT!
