HELP: Machine turns itself off immediately

Machine specs: PII 450, win NT 4.0.
When I push the power button the machine sometimes gets to point where it does the beep that all machines do when they boot up (before memory test and after video card). but right after that it shuts itself off.

I was able to get the machine to boot last night but when I checked on it a little bit later, it was off.

I tried switching the memory around and pulling out each one to make sure it wasn't the memory.
After messing with it, it got to the point where it would not even do anything when I push the power button. But then later all of the sudden it tried to start up but then turned itself off.

My guess is that it is a bad power supply or some sort of heating issue. Any ideas anybody?

Thanks in Advance.

Kinda sounds like a bad board, i doubt its a heat issue with that, unless you have a dead cpu fan.

All the fans work.

I think there might have been a power surge that could have caused it. Can a power surge get through a surge protector without frying it?

Do power supplies have automatic shutoffs?

BUY A NEW COMPUTER!!! you can get a cheap 300 dollar computer that will be 20 times better then what you got.

Good advice... but the machine isn't mine and it a business machine and they don't want to spend money on a new machine
