Just curious....is your Q6600 the GO or B3 stepping?

EDIT....NM, i found your CPU-Z link.

BTW...i also think it's your mobo, time to upgrade to the UD3R ;)

its a g0 Q6600 w/ a VID of 1.2125v. nice right?

i dont think i'll be getting a new motherboard tho, my motherboard is still under warranty till 2010. i'll prob just RMA it since we're in a recession now...

but its so weird how... nothing EVER happens wrong except that it freezes mostly during idle and once during desktop usage and once during gaming.

other than that, i have absolutely 0 other problems, which is probably why i'm in no real hurry to get a new mobo. all i need to do is reboot every day or two or simply shut down

Have you tried booting a Linux Live CD and let it set or run something for a while to see if it exhibits the same behaviour?

LinX AND Prime95 at the same time? Why? Wouldn't they fight each other for CPU time, and thus not stress the system out as much as one of them alone?

exactly, thats a horrible stress test. why would u run 2 programs that would just fight each other for cpu cycles. in the end, they'd just take a longer time, can give false errors, don't find potential errors and other bad bad things...

and did i post in that thread? link to the thread?

That version of LinX uses 4 threads.

Louis your symptom sounds very similiar to a symptom my system once had. Now not all symptoms are from the same disease, so the root-cause of my problems may have absolutely nothing to do with the root cause of your problems...but in my case it turned out I had a very minor (and I mean MINOR) shorting issues between the backside of my mobo and my case. It wasn't even really a short in the sense of near-zero resistance and near-infinite current flow, perhaps it was only as bad as something like a capacitor forming because the air-gap between the metal lead on my mobo and the case was so small.

At any rate I came to this realization because my system would only behave this way when I had it in the case. I took it out of the case and set it up on the cardboard box that the mobo came in and ran it that way for ages without issue. Put it back in the case and had the problem again. so then I used fingernail clippers and I clipped shorter all the solder leads I could see on the backside of the mobo. Reinstalled in the case and never had the problem again.

Could be same symptom but different disease though. But to check all you need to do is setup your computer outside the case and run it like that for a while. It'll won't cost you anything to try except your time and effort.

A test outside of the case with just the bare minimum to establish a baseline is what I would do next if it hasn't been done already. Then I'd buy $40 of 4gb ram if I couldn't find some to borrow. Next would be the mb and then the cpu. It looks like the s/w angle has been covered.

You might be able to exacerbate the problem with this. I haven't tried it yet.

i'm not sure its related to my case, IDC, when ur problem came, was it a 100% lock up and that was all?

to the user above me, i'm 95% sure its NOT my ram... i've had my share of ram problems in the past and they dont give lock ups, mostly corrupt OS's and blue screens and no-boots. +, i've memtested each stick intensively...

i know what intel burn test is and i have used it, it doesn't give any errors with my system, nor does p95, nor does occt. nor does the latest occt PSU test.

That version of LinX uses 4 threads.

that doesn't matter at all, using two stress testing programs only steal cpu cycles from each other.

wonder why people dont run 3dmark06 + atiTool at the same time? the same pretty much goes for CPU's, you dont run 2 cpu stability programs alongside each other

Submit it again. You should receive an email like this:

Dear Customer,

This email is to confirm that we received your request A51266 for 1 pcs.
Your request is under approval right now. We will issue a RMA number within 2 business days.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Gigabyte Inc.

Unfortunately, Gigabyte's customer service is horrendous.
