Hi Im looking for a server or workstation board with loads of ram capacity.
I can find lots of opteron boards that handle up to 24gb, but they all eat ecc/reg dimms and cost a bundle.
I need a unbuffered non-ecc board that handles loads of ram.
Best find so far is an ABIT SV-1A, but I cant find anyone in the UK who sells these.
Also its only got 4 slots, so I would have to buy mega pricey 2gb dimms.

Ideally a board with 8 slots would be nice, so I can get 8x1gb dimms in and upgrade to 2gb dimms when the price falls, or I need more ram.

System is for a Monster VMWARE box. To consolodate all our development servers onto.

Can anyone suggest any other brands or any upcoming releases?

That is not possible. With 8Gb would require more ICs than an unbuffered memory controller can handle.
