Help, looking for a "how to.."

I have a VHS-C tape of the last hours of my grandson's life and need to try and extract some stills from it, as he was only 2 months old when he passed away on Christmas day. I have a JVC camara that has digital output and a rca yellow and white jacks . It is a Gr- AXM710 model, a few years old,and I con't find a manual. If it the entire tape can be downloaded to my hardrive for editing, what program should I use, and can I get a single frame to extract and make a picture from?

This is extremely important. My daughter has no pictures of my grandson and this is our only hope to get some pictures to remember him by. If you know what to do or have experience in these matters, please reply. It will be greatly appreciated, more than you will ever know.

Here's the manual for the GR-AXM710U (not quite the exact same model but I don't know the difference). You can probably also get copies of the original software from JVC.com, but I'm not sure if it would include video capture software. I don't think you can directly transfer the video from the camcorder to the PC using the serial cable, it seems to be only used for still images captured to the camera memory (not the VHS-C tape).

The easiest thing to do would be to get a product such as one of the Dazzle Multimedia capture units, like the Digital Video Creator line. They connect via USB or Firewire or USB2.0 (the faster interfaces would be preferred if you have them or can buy an extra card, as they can capture better resolutions), and they come with all the software you need. All of them seem to come with RCA connectors. Or you can get an internal card such as an ATi TV Wonder, however they're less "multimedia creation" oriented and more for TV viewing and recording.

Thank you very much. I will do a search for the Dazzle Multimedia capture kit. I have firewire in my audigy card, and USB1.1.
