I just built a new duron system.
Duron 750, KK-266, 384 MB Mosel, Toshiba DVD (just got today), and Teac 8x8x32 burner.
Having trouble whenever I'm installing something off of the dvd or burner. Thought it was the burner at first, since I am not having any other lockups or problems. However, I put the dvd in today, and it's doing the same thing.
Whenever I try to install something off of a cd-rom, it locks the system hard at a random time. There seems to be no particular reason for it. I've tried multiple disks, both burned and original. Occasionally, it will go all the way through an install, but it is 1 time in 10 maybe.
The system is overclocked now, but wasn't when I first started getting the problems. Moved it back down to 700 and 750, same thing. Temp stays around 40 at load and 35 at idle.
Everything is installing to a 40gb maxtor hdd, brand new. DMA is enabled on all the drives in the system. Originally had just the windows BM drivers, installed the ide from the 4 in 1s and the 3.11(?) beta off of the download site. No help.
Any ideas?
