ok, my pc is in one room and my monitor, keyboard, mouse are in another. i ran the wires though the wall because nothing dampers sound like a foot of drywall. but every time i want to put in a cd into the drive i have to get up and go into the other room and its a real pain.
a long time ago i saw these conversion kits that would take an internal cd-rom and make it external by putting a case around it and also converting the IDE cable into a usb.
i cant find these things anymore, has anyone seen them or know where they are?
Thanks

Hi, External drive housings should be no problem at all to find. Just be sure to get the 5 1/2" size. It will have it's own power supply and plug into a USB port. You may need a USB extersion cord to get through the wall. Also shouldn't be a problem. Luck, Jim

Hi, You may want to run a remote Switch to turn it off and on. You might not have to worry about power as most CD readers monitor down after a few seconds. Jim

This may not answer your questions but maybe you should consider moving the unit back in the same room as the peripherals except you need to do some PC silencing on your unit. Silent fans, and sound damping material can silent a pc to almost no sound detectable. If you decide to water cool, you can ran the tubes through the dry wall while the water unit is in the other room. I find this more sensible rathen than reconfiguring all the peripherals with ext cords. IMO.
