Hey,

I'm using WinXP... I installed a Lite-On CD-RW (an older 24x model from last year) as the master drive, blah blah blah (a DVD drive is the slave).

When I start up, the BIOS recognizes everything as fine... and if I start in safe mode, everything is kosher... but when I wanna just burn a CD in normal Winxp mode, my drive isnt even on the system!

What'supwitdat and how can I fix this?

thanks,
Chris

I'm using Nero (not sure what version # it is b/c I'm at work), but I'm pretty sure it's 5.5somethingorother

Could that be the problem? Think I should just change to Easy CD Creator or something?

what burning software & version number are you using?

I dont have any idea why this would have anything to do with windows not detecting the burner.
Boot into the bios and make sure autodetect is activated for the IDE drives. It may also be a bad IDE cable. Check the jumpers. When you are booted into windows does it show up as a drive? The question is a little bit easy to misunderstand.

Registry setting:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ CD Burning \ Drives.

Each CD drive will have its own Volume key. Double-click the "Drive Type" value to change its properties.

CD-Rs should be set to 1;

CD-RWs should be set to 2;

non-writables should be set to 3.

sorry, none of these ideas are helping me...

It just sucks from my point of view: I start in safe mode, and "my computer" lists my burner as a drive.

But when I start normally, my burner mysteriously disappears from "my computer" (as well as everywhere else on the system).

I've updated the firmware on the drive, did that registry thing, deleted Nero from my comp... and nothing.

Any other suggestions?

try temporarily disconnecting the dvd drive which is a slave to the liteon & see if it, the cdrw, appears in windows!
