Help! Linksys BEFSR41 w/ Netgear WG602 WAP: can't access the internet!

NYC

Junior Member
I have 2 desktops and 1 notebook networked on the Linksys router and now I'm attempting to take the notebook wireless through a Netgear WG602 WAP and Netgear WG511 PC card.

Connection status shows my notebook is connected to the WAP and vice versa, but I could neither access WAP setup nor get internet connection from the notebook. What could I be doing wrong?

I can access WAP setup from my desktops just fine.

Any idea?

what does the wap setup tell you? I think we need more info than this.
what kind of cable are you using toi connect the wap to the router?

.....and Welcome!! 🙂

are you using WEP? if you are, using it with a keyset? broadcasting the SSID? MAC address filtering?

the more you tell us the easier it will be for us to help ya!

I'm using Cat 5e to connect the the router and wap.

I'm really not not familiar with this stuff so I'm not sure exactly what additonal info I should provide from the wap setup, but here are some if it helps:

WEP: Enabled
Authentication Type: Open System
Encryption Strength: 128 bits
Generated 4 WEP keys and Key 1 is selected
SSID: Netgear
Channel/Freguency: 11/2.462GHz
Data Rate: Best
DHCP Client: Enabled

RTS Threshold: 2346
Fragmentention Length: 2346
Beacon Interval: 100ms
DTIM Interval: 1
Preamble Type: Long

DHCP clients table from the Linksys router shows the wap's IP address and MAC address but no client hostname. Is this a factor? I'm running XP pro and wireless network does appear in my network connections with an exellent connection status.

how exactly do you have the WAP and router connected? which ports and patch or crossover cable?

I have my router connected to my WAP by just using a crossover cable and connecting regular ports, but this may not apply since my WAP is really a wireless router w/ a built in 4 port ethernet switch...

I can't find too much info about it that particular WAP, but are you sure you have the correct type of cable plugged into it from your router?

Thanks for all the help guys! Yes, the problem is deemed to be improper config of wep as I now have internet connection after wep is turned off. Any pointers in setting the wep properly?

Doh! It looks like I simply made a mistake when I entered the wep key into my laptop, but all is well now~ Thanks again everyone!
