Got XP up and running and noticed when I left the laptop running it would hibernate itself. Turned this off and checked Power Options settings. Went away and came back the monitor was blank, couldn't get screen back so pressed power button and it sounded like it was powering up but no screen.
Tried this numerous times, but still no screen. Once it switches on the monitor makes a switching sound like it turns itself off.
Removed battery but still does it.
can someone please help.
its my friends laptop aswell!!

I had the same problem with upgrading my Omnibook 4150 to w2k,

chances are that u need a new BIOS with ACPI support for the computer to cope with the
new powersaving funtions of w2k/xp...

of course this only applies if you have a rather old bios / and are uppgrading from a w9x-line OS...

If this isn't the case, please give me some more machine specs so that I've got something to work on!

Where did you disable hibernate? If you didn't uncheck the "enable hibernate support" in the hibernate tab, then you may have only disabled hibernate and inactivity function. The "go into hibernate when power is pressed" could still be active. If you are stuck in hibernation, then press and hold the "backspace" key and then power on the unit with the key pressed. This should bring the unit out of a corrupt hibernation. If that doesn't work, then try finding the reset button and press that while the unit is on. What unit is it?
