Help-Laptop Keyboard Keys?

I'm borrowing a friends Dell Inspiron 3800 for the summer and found it has a few keys that don't work. It seems as though he dropped something on the keyboard, and diagonal row of the '8-l-k-,' won't work. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this fixed cheaply?

new laptop keyboards are pretty expensive, so I want to avoid that route. I'd rather not be forced to use character map or "alt + ###" to get those characters, but I may have no choice. I leave for a 2 month research position in england next week, so I really don't have much time.

Suggestions appreciated.

You might want to check the IE history and search for jpgs before you delve any deeper 😉

Otherwise just pop the KB out and make sure the cable is snug

You can also pop the key off and check to make sure the little "nipple" in making contact

If all else fails take the KB apart and wash it off

The other option is to buy an external KB and not worry about your buddys sticky laptop keys
