For the past 2 years my Laptop has been dead silent, this recent month it's been quite loud, can it be a virus or the fan showing its age? i did notice something a little odd on the bottom left of the Firefox browser, sometimes when the page is done loading it still says Transferring data. can it be someone stealing my data, maybe that's why it's getting so loud? :\

I have already scanned with multi spy programs..Avira, spybot, malwarebytes..

Maybe the heatsink and fan are so clogged with dust after these two years, that the fan is working overtime to try and cool the CPU down.

what about the Transferring data on the bottom left of my browser when the pages are done loading, someones not messing with my computer and stealing my data is it?

if someone's "stealing your data", it's not gonna be through the browser session. while that might be an entry point, it's only to install something more useful to them. thus, "transferring data" doesnt mean much. more likely, it's a flash page or something that's taking forever to load, and not a necessary part of the page so you ignore it.

with regard to opening a laptop, yes it is possible. but if you're uncomfortable working with open PC's, then i suggest you get someone else to do it. you could easily damage some sensitive component through ESD.

it's not hard to open a laptop and clean it yourself, but if you find it a daunting task, then just take it somewhere that does it for a living.

You may not need to disassemble the laptop to clean out the fan and heatsink.
You can use canned air to blow into the fan intake port and blow air into the exhaust port.
It's not the absolute best way to clean these components, but it will do in a pinch.
At least it will let you know if dust buildup is your loud fan problem.

What model number is your laptop?

BTW, You should use your laptop on a solid surface, where lint can't be sucked into the intake port during operation.

You don't hear viruses, ever. It's either dirt, or a worn out fan.

Is your CPU usage unusually high? If some new task is constantly pegging your CPU, that could explain a sudden increase in fan noise/heat.

If that still doesn't solve the problem, bring it by my house and I'll fix it for you.
I don't know exactly how much it will be. but it shouldn't be over $236.52

you know where i am?

he was joking.

hence the absurdly high price estimate.

yummyvegetables, it's obvious you dont know much about computers. dont discount the advice people are giving you by stating that otherwise is "common knowledge". just a suggestion.

so no, a virus wont make your computer explode. it wont cause your computer to run any hotter than the normal maximum speed would.

ooc, what's typical processor usage at, and what the primary culprit? (find this by hitting ctrl-alt-del and selecting task manager, processes tab. alternatively, right click on the taskbar, hit task manager, processes tab.

I think, like most the others in this thread, that your computer is probably just running hot because of dust. like i said before, i recommend if you're uncomfortable opening the computer up, that you simply take it over to a computer repair shop that's trained in dealing with this kind of thing. though i would heavily recommend against geek-squad.
